COVID-19 Vaccine: Is Covaxine more safer than Covishield or viceversa?

As India started a Vaccination program for 18+ with Covishield and Covaxine. It becomes bewildering which vaccine to choose? Which suits best? Which vaccine is more efficient?

As India started a Vaccination program for 18+ with Covishield and Covaxine. It becomes bewildering which vaccine to choose? Which suits best? Which vaccine is more efficient? And most importantly which vaccine is safe? So, let’s do the analysis.


Generally, vaccines are made by following three types:

Viral Vector Vaccine- In this type of vaccine, a Chimpanzee Adenovirus is taken as a vaccine host. Adenovirus is only the family of viruses (harmless viruses). Its genetic code is replaced through chemicals with the genetic code of the SARS- COV2 virus (Covid-19).

This Chimpanzee Adenovirus with the genetic code of SARS- COV2 act as a vaccine to alert the immune system of our body to form antibodies. An example of this type of vaccine is Covishield.

Inactivated Vaccine-

This type of vaccine is made by a virus itself. For this, a virus is developed in the lab, treated with chemicals in order to deactivate it, and then the virus is injected into the patient’s body which alerts the immune system of our body to form antibodies. Covaxine is one of those Inactivated Vaccine.

mRNA Vaccine-

Generally, these vaccines are also made from the virus itself. There are several spike proteins present on the surface of the virus which contains the RNA (single-stranded). This RNA is triggered and injected into the human body to act as an antibody. Vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna’s are the mRNA vaccine.

Almost every vaccine shows one or the other side effects which is normal. A little body ache, headache, fever, chill, weakness, etc. are some of them. But these are temporary side effects that are natural.


Covaxin, an Inactivated vaccine which is totally an Indian vaccine made from the collaboration of Bharat Biotech in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research  (ICMR). It is prescribed to take two doses four weeks apart. After the completion of both the doses, the immunization of a body increases. It is found safer with 81% efficacy in 1st dose.

Side effects of Covaxin- After getting this vaccination of Covaxin, one can go through simple pain and swelling which are termed as local side effects. This type of side effect is totally normal and can be recovered within one or two days.


Covishield, which is the same as AstraZeneca, is another Indian vaccine whose formula and study are from Oxford while its whole manufacturing is done in India. Currently, this is one of the widely used vaccines in India.

Covishield is proven 70% effective after 1st dose. It shows increased efficacy with longer inter-dose intervals.

Side effects of Covishield-

Earlier AstraZeneca has shown serious side effects like blood clotting, brain hemorrhage, etc. The data showed that 1 out of 1,00,000 person experiences blood clotting, dies which is not good but shouldn’t be an obstacle in vaccination.

With the growing death rate of humans through coronavirus, 1 person dies out of one lakh is not a big thing to be worried about. The doctor’s opinion on this vaccine is Idiosyncratic.

Other than this, Covishield has shown good results.

People with pre-existing diseases

Everyone should take the vaccine and people who are suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease or maybe they are following their chemotherapy, or just had a transplant- they all should take the vaccine at first count.

The only contradictory point is if any person suffering from such mentioned disease after taking 1st dose, experiences any irregularity then they must consult their doctor. In such cases, Covaxine which has very minor or negligible life risk can opt.

Women’s vaccination-

Girls/women whose menstrual cycle is going on can still take the vaccine. A girl or a woman can’t take a vaccine during her periods, as it can cause health risks or immune deficiency is not true.

There is a lack of data for vaccination (Covaxin or Covishield) of pregnant women or lactating women. Rather, there is positive data for Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccine.

Effectivity against the new strain

Until now there is no data describing its incompetency. Uk’s strain is transmissible but still, vaccines are good. Even from South Africa and in India, where mutants of this virus are found, vaccines are doing fine.

But there is no data for this point on a large scale so it is difficult to commit that this will work best for the new strain. But as if for now, Both the vaccines are capable of fighting against the virus.

Is it important of taking 2 doses?

It is advised to take both doses but with the maximum interval. If someone took the first dose but, due to shortage of vaccine production, they are unable to get its 2nd dose then they should wait and try for it.

WHO has also recommended that if there is a shortage of vaccines then a person can wait for up to 6 months.

Infection after 1st dose

Firstly, if you got infected after 1st dose of any of the vaccines, then the symptoms would be mild or maybe you won’t get any symptoms. And then after recovering take a gap for 2nd dose.

Our Government suggests the gap for two weeks, but the doctor suggests a long gap. For Covaxin it could be 4 weeks and for Covishield it should be 8 to 12 weeks.

Doctors suggest the longer gap between doses more protection from the virus.

Recovered v/s Vaccinated

It is seen that Recovered+ vaccinated person is a great combination. The vaccine works very well on the recovered person, as the antibodies germinate efficiently.


Though both the vaccines are good enough to boost immunity. But, According to the data and stats, Covaxin has resulted safer than Covishield. However, If there is still a question that which vaccine is good then the answer would be ANY. Because at this point in time, where Corona cases in India are on a hike, any vaccine will work well for us.

Rubber tree plant

It is fairly easy to maintain but is fussy when it comes to the amount of water it needs. Here is what you need to know if you have this plant. Rubber plants are rainforest specimens. While they need consistent moistness, they don’t want it to be soggy. Ensure that the pot the plant is in has adequate draining holes.

Use a dish under the pot lined with pebbles to catch extra water. This will keep the roots from sitting in water but provide the humidity as the water evaporates.

Croton plant

Its beautifully patterned leaves can brighten any space. Now that the rains are here in full force, it is important to ensure that you take care of all your plants. Overwatering can lead to root rot. An important thing to keep in mind is that the pot is well-drained. There is moisture in the air, overwatering will harm the plant. Croton also needs at least six to seven hours of sunshine but excess heat will damage its leaves. Try and keep the plant either East or West facing to make sure that the leaves don’t lose their colour.

English Ivy

It looks pretty and while it may look like it is an easy plant to look after, it is not the case. Like any other plant, this plant too will rot and its leaves will turn brown if you overwater them. Before you water it, check the soil. If it is moist, don’t water it. Make sure that the soil is loose and is kept in a well-drained pot. The plant grows in bright light but it is away from direct sunlight. It is a beautiful plan that can be kept inside the home; potting it in a hanging basket is an excellent way to enjoy the beauty of this plant.


The delicate curled leaves that unfurl into long, lacy fronds look pretty. Go into the forest and you will find ferns carpeting the floor. They also make a great houseplant. They can grow in any kind of pot — clay to hanging baskets to ceramic and don’t require full sun to thrive.

But Indian weather is different. A plant that may live happily in any other environment needs a lot of care here. They love moisture. During the rainy season make sure you don’t overwater the plant or the roots will rot. You can even spray water on the leaves to lock the moisture in. You can keep this plant in the bathroom or even the kitchen.

Green Aralia

One of the most important things to keep in mind if you have a green aralia is that it has to be kept away from cold drafts and windows during the winter months to ensure that it thrives. It needs a feed once every other month during the spring. During the summer months, the plant needs liquid fertiliser. However, be careful if you buy this plant; it is mildly toxic to humans and pets. Ingestion can lead to gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

They are best as landscape plants. While watering aralia which is indoors, deep water is only when the soil is nearly dry. One of the most important things to keep in mind if you have a green aralia is that it has to be kept away from cold drafts and windows during the winter months to ensure that it thrives.

Pitcher plant

It is not always possible to ensure that the plant that you bring is going to live. Hence, it is important to take care of it properly. Let’s take the pitcher plant. So how does one take care of it if one wants to keep it indoors even if it is a carnivorous plant?

Depending on the species, some require full sunlight and those that originate in the floor of the rainforest may need filtered light. It requires moist soil, and keeps the potting soil moist, but not soggy. Allow the pot to drain thoroughly after watering and never let the pot stand in water or the roots will rot.
